It took 11 years. I sat with my Samuel at age 1 longing to give him a book with a single Bible verse in it that we could read again and again; longing for him to memorize Scripture like he had memorized other board books. The dream went slow at first- hand made books from pictures of kids off the internet printed on sticker labels. A few years later I hired a photographer and a musician to make the books professional. I hunted down the publishing dream and went to a writer's conference. I had two book contracts for these books from publishers...who wanted something different for them than I did. Then I went back to teaching and life got busy.
Six years later, I am sitting in my garden with a cup of tea and my Bible. The nudge came, "It's time to pick up Sing, Move, and Memorize again, Amie." Fear and wonder filled my heart. Could it be true, Lord? Really? One month later...just yesterday, in fact, the first book arrived. I am in awe of our God. He gave me the idea. He gave me the resources. Sheila Dokter took pictures for me with her awesome camera. Taylor Cobos sang like an angel for each song. Children at school happily let me take their pictures while doing excellent sign language. My friend, Katrina, my Mom, and my son Samuel cheered for me along the way. "Where are your books now? How's the publishing journey?" God has been faithful for years to bring me to this point, and I am humbled at His kindness. I only hope that these books and (newly created video curriculum) can inspire children to love God's Word and remember it for a lifetime.
